Beginner-Friendly Boxing Class in NYC: Strangers Walked In, Boxers Walked Out (Nobody Got Hurt)

Saturday, July 25. 139 Fulton Street in the Financial District of Manhattan. The room filled up for a free group boxing class in NYC. Different backgrounds, different fitness levels, no idea what to expect from each other.
By the end of the class, none of that mattered.
That is BOXwithSimmy.
What the Room Looked Like
The group was exactly what you would expect at a beginner-friendly boxing class in NYC: a mix of everyone. First-timers who had never thrown a punch. People who had been training for years. New Yorkers who found the class through Instagram. Others who came because a friend told them to show up.
Different backgrounds. Different fitness levels. Different reasons for walking through the door.
By the end of class, you could not separate who was who. That is by design.
How the Class Is Structured
Most boxing classes in New York City pack 20 to 30 people into a room and let you figure it out. This is not that. Every class at BOXwithSimmy is coached by a former WBC (CABOFE) Welterweight Champion, and regular classes are capped at 6 people. That is semi-private training at group class prices. Saturday's event was a rare exception, and even with a bigger group in the room, nobody trained unwatched.
The class is built around one idea: no one gets left behind.
No technique too complicated to learn in a session. No exercise too hard to get through. The combinations build from simple to compound. The conditioning work is demanding but stays accessible. The focus is always on form first, output second.
People who had never boxed were landing combinations by the midpoint. People who came in with experience were being pushed harder than they expected. Everyone was sweating. Everyone was working.
That is what the best group boxing class in New York City looks like.
Nobody Got Hurt. Nobody Ever Does.
Here is the question every beginner is quietly asking before their first boxing class: am I going to get hit?
No. Group classes at BOXwithSimmy are strictly no-contact. You work the bags, the mitts, and the drills. Nobody is throwing punches at you. Nobody is getting thrown into the deep end.
Every session runs under strict safety rules: proper warm-ups before any work, hand wraps checked before gloves go on, technique corrected before intensity goes up, and a coach watching every rep. Twenty years in the ring taught me exactly how people get hurt. That is exactly how I coach so that you never do.
A full room trained hard on Saturday. Zero injuries. That is not luck. That is how the room is run.
The Energy
It was electric from round one to the last. Not nervous energy. The kind you feel when everyone in the room is locked in and working together at the same time.
When the class ended, people stayed. They talked. They asked questions. And they signed up for future boxing classes in NYC.
When people can barely catch their breath and their first move is to book the next class, the session went exactly as planned.

What People Said
Membership Comes With More Than Classes
BOXwithSimmy membership goes beyond the training. Members get free entry to events like the one we ran Saturday, plus access to the Jump Rope Club, the Running Club, and the Sparring Club.
The Sparring Club is where members who want to test their skills take the next step, and it runs under the same safety-first rules as everything else here. Sparring is always optional, always controlled, and only for members who are technically ready. Full protective equipment, controlled intensity, and a champion watching every round. You learn what works under pressure without anyone getting hurt. That is how real boxers are built.
